The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a hard-fought 112-109 overtime victory against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in a game that featured multiple lead changes and dramatic moments down the stretch.
Anthony Edwards delivered a stellar performance, scoring 34 points on 13-of-24 shooting while adding 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The All-Star guard took over in critical moments, including a crucial three-pointer that forced overtime with 12 seconds remaining in regulation.
"We knew this was a must-win game for our seeding situation," Edwards said postgame. "They're a tough team that plays fast, but we stuck with our game plan and made plays when it mattered most."
Karl-Anthony Towns provided strong support with 28 points and 12 rebounds, dominating in the paint against Indiana's interior defense. The Timberwolves big man went 11-of-19 from the field and hit several key free throws in the extra period.
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged his team's defensive efforts fell short against Minnesota's star power. "We had our opportunities but couldn't get enough stops against their elite scorers," Carlisle said. "Edwards and Towns made championship-level plays when their team needed them."
Indiana was led by Tyrese Haliburton's 29 points and 11 assists, while Myles Turner contributed 22 points and 8 rebounds. The Pacers erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit before ultimately falling in overtime.
The game featured 18 lead changes and 12 ties, with neither team building more than an 11-point advantage throughout the contest. Both teams shot above 45% from the field, but Minnesota's 38-32 rebounding advantage proved crucial in securing second-chance opportunities.
"This is exactly the type of game we need heading into the playoffs," said Timberwolves coach Chris Finch. "Our guys showed tremendous resilience against a very good offensive team on their home court."
With the victory, Minnesota improves to 52-25 and solidifies their position in the competitive Western Conference playoff race. The Pacers drop to 44-33 but remain firmly in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
Both teams continue their playoff push with important matchups later this week. Minnesota faces Denver in a potential playoff preview on Friday, while Indiana travels to face Milwaukee in another crucial Eastern Conference showdown.
