The Orlando Magic made a dramatic statement on Thursday night in their matchup against the Washington Wizards, securing a 136-131 overtime victory that extended their current winning streak to six games. Leading the charge was Jalen Suggs, who exploded for a season-high 28 points and delivered the decisive blow with a crucial 3-pointer at the 1:27 mark of the extra period.
The game unfolded as a remarkable display of resilience from Washington, who arrived in Florida reeling from a humiliating loss two nights earlier when Miami's Bam Adebayo torched them for a staggering 83 points—the second-most in NBA history. Despite that embarrassment, the Wizards refused to go quietly, orchestrating an improbable fourth-quarter comeback that nearly completed an upset before ultimately falling short.
Orlando appeared to be in complete control through much of the contest, building an 86-67 advantage midway through the third quarter behind solid all-around contributions from their depth. The Magic stretched their advantage to 17 points early in the fourth quarter when Suggs recorded a steal and layup to open the period's scoring. At that juncture, a Magic victory seemed inevitable as they maintained a 96-81 edge heading into the final twelve minutes.
Washington, however, had other plans. Led by an extraordinary performance from Bilal Coulibaly, who recorded a career-high 29 points including 13 in the fourth quarter alone, the Wizards staged a furious comeback. With just 5.8 seconds remaining in regulation, Coulibaly banked in a crucial 3-pointer to tie the game and send matters to overtime.
The extra period belonged to Orlando. Coulibaly knotted the score once more at 131 with 1:39 remaining, but Suggs answered emphatically with his tiebreaking 3-pointer. He then sealed the victory by converting two free throws with 56 seconds left on the clock. Tristan da Silva proved instrumental throughout, contributing 26 points while also recording seven rebounds, four steals, and two blocks—including a crucial rejection of Coulibaly's drive attempt in overtime.
The Magic received balanced scoring contributions from Desmond Bane with 22 points, Wendell Carter Jr. with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Paolo Banchero, who finished with 18 points and 10 boards. Orlando's Jonathan Isaac departed the contest with a sprained left knee, a potential concern heading forward.
For Washington, the loss marked their 10th consecutive defeat. Beyond Coulibaly's career performance, the Wizards got 16 points from Alex Sarr and 15 points with six assists from Trae Young, who played limited minutes at just 21 total. Despite the gutsy fourth-quarter surge, the effort proved insufficient against the Magic's depth.
The two teams will immediately shift focus to their next assignments, with Washington traveling to Boston to face the Celtics on Saturday, while Orlando heads south to Miami for a showdown with the Heat on the same evening.
