A defensive battle has broken out in South Beach, with the Toronto Raptors taking a 43-36 lead over the Miami Heat into halftime. The Raptors controlled the pace for much of the first half, though both teams struggled to find consistent offense after a high-scoring opening period.
The first quarter was all Toronto, as they raced out to a 32-27 lead behind a balanced attack. The momentum, however, came to a screeching halt in a second quarter defined by stifling defense and missed shots. The two teams combined for a mere 20 points, with the Raptors narrowly winning the frame 11-9. Miami’s offense went ice cold, failing to capitalize on Toronto’s own scoring drought.
For the Raptors, Scottie Barnes leads the way with 9 points, while Brandon Ingram and rookie Ja’Kobe Walter have each chipped in 8 and 6 points, respectively. The Heat have been carried by guard Davion Mitchell, who is the only player in double figures with 11 points on efficient shooting. Norman Powell and Jaime Jaquez Jr. each added 6 points for Miami.
The game remains within reach for the Heat, but they must solve Toronto’s defensive schemes and generate easier looks to mount a second-half comeback.
