ORLANDO – A defensive battle has broken out at the Kia Center, with the Orlando Magic taking a 44-39 lead into halftime over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.
The Magic controlled the opening frame, using their size and activity to build an early cushion. They closed the first quarter on a 10-2 run, capped by a transition finish from Jalen Suggs, to lead 28-21. Suggs set the tone early, pacing all players with 9 first-half points to go with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Desmond Bane facilitated effectively, adding 7 points and 3 assists.
Phoenix’s offense, typically potent, was held in check for most of the half. Devin Booker leads the Suns with 7 points but was limited to 3-of-9 shooting from the field. The Suns showed life in the second quarter, grinding out an 18-16 edge behind energy from reserves Rasheer Fleming (6 points) and Jalen Green (6 points). Their defense tightened, holding Orlando to just 33% shooting in the period, but they could not overcome their own cold start.
The Magic’s advantage stems from their disruptive defense, which forced eight Suns turnovers and protected the paint. Orlando will look to reignite their offensive flow in the second half, while Phoenix needs its star backcourt to find a rhythm to mount a comeback.
