The Los Angeles Lakers used a suffocating defensive second quarter to take a 41-35 halftime lead over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena.
The first quarter was a tightly contested affair, with the Wizards narrowly edging the Lakers 26-25. Washington’s offense showed early flow, but momentum shifted decisively in the second period. The Lakers locked down, holding the Wizards to just nine points on a dismal 4-of-21 shooting from the field. A 12-2 run by Los Angeles midway through the quarter transformed a one-point deficit into a comfortable lead they would not relinquish.
LeBron James orchestrated the Lakers' efforts, pacing all players with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in a controlled first-half performance. Jaxson Hayes provided efficient interior energy with 9 points and 5 rebounds, while Luke Kennard added 7 points from the perimeter.
Washington’s offense stalled completely after the first, with no player reaching double figures. Tristan Vukcevic leads the team with 7 points, but the Wizards were hampered by cold shooting and a -8 rebounding margin. They will need a significant third-quarter adjustment to challenge the Lakers’ defensive grip on the game.
