The Atlanta Hawks have made a strategic move to strengthen their interior rotation ahead of the postseason, signing veteran center Tony Bradley on Monday. The 6-foot-10 big man provides additional depth as the team prepares for what they hope will be a deep playoff run.
Bradley brings eight seasons of NBA experience to Atlanta, having most recently appeared in 38 games for the Indiana Pacers this season. During his time with Indiana, the veteran center averaged 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds while making three starts.
"We're always looking for ways to improve our roster, especially as we head into the most important part of the season," said Hawks General Manager Landry Fields. "Tony gives us another experienced big body who understands how to contribute in playoff basketball."
The 26-year-old center began the 2024-25 campaign with the Hawks' G League affiliate in College Park before joining the Pacers. His journey through the league includes stops with Utah, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, and Chicago, providing him with diverse experience across multiple systems.
Bradley's postseason resume includes 20 career playoff appearances, experience that the Hawks value highly as they currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. His familiarity with physical playoff basketball could prove valuable in what promises to be a competitive Eastern Conference bracket.
To create roster space for Bradley, the Hawks requested waivers on forward Caleb Houstan. The 22-year-old had signed a two-way contract with Atlanta last October before having his deal converted to a standard NBA contract in February. Houstan appeared in 18 games for the Hawks, averaging 2.3 points.
"These decisions are never easy, but we felt this move strengthened our team for the challenges ahead," Fields added. "We thank Caleb for his contributions and wish him the best moving forward."
The signing comes as Atlanta prepares for Monday night's matchup against the New York Knicks, a potential playoff opponent. With the postseason beginning next week, the Hawks are focused on solidifying their rotation and ensuring they have adequate depth to handle the physical demands of playoff basketball.
Bradley is expected to join the team immediately and could see action as early as the final regular season games as the Hawks look to integrate him into their system. His role will likely involve providing quality minutes behind starting center Clint Capela and serving as insurance against foul trouble or injury during the playoffs.
