Manchester United has confirmed that defender Harry Maguire has signed a new contract with the club. The England international was previously set to become a free agent at the end of the current season but has now agreed to terms that will keep him at Old Trafford.
The new deal is structured as an initial one-year extension through June 2027, with an option for an additional 12 months beyond that date. This commitment ensures Maguire will continue his journey with the club for at least eight seasons since his arrival.
Maguire expressed his pride in representing Manchester United, stating: "Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day."
The 33-year-old defender also shared his enthusiasm about the club's future prospects: "I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together. You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us."
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United's director of football, praised Maguire's qualities and importance to the squad: "Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad. Harry, like everyone at the club, is completely determined to help Manchester United to achieve regular and sustained success."
Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 in a transfer worth £80 million. Since his arrival, he has made 266 appearances for the club while scoring 17 goals. His recent form since January has been particularly impressive, contributing to United's revival under manager Michael Carrick and earning him a recall to the England national team ahead of March international fixtures.
The contract extension represents a significant vote of confidence in Maguire's continued importance to Manchester United's defensive setup and leadership structure as the club builds toward future success.
