The Cleveland Cavaliers made a resounding statement on the road Friday night, dismantling the Dallas Mavericks 138-105 in the first installment of a back-to-back set. The dominant performance showcased why Cleveland has emerged as one of the league's most formidable offensive teams this season, with Evan Mobley leading the charge in spectacular fashion.
Mobley was nearly unstoppable from the opening tip, equaling his season-high 29 points while displaying the kind of efficient, dominant play that has made him a centerpiece of the Cavaliers' offense. The versatile forward was a force in the opening quarter alone, dropping 16 points and essentially setting the tone for what would become a lopsided affair. By intermission, Mobley had already accumulated 23 points, marking the second-most productive half of his career. His efficiency was otherworldly—he connected on 12 of 15 field goal attempts and corralled seven rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.
Donovan Mitchell provided strong secondary scoring with 24 points, while James Harden chipped in 17 points alongside seven rebounds and seven assists. The trio's collective output overwhelmed a Mavericks squad still searching for consistency following their recent struggles. Cleveland's overall offensive execution was nearly flawless, with the team shooting 61.5% from the field and connecting on 18 of 38 three-pointers—good for 47% from beyond the arc.
Dallas found themselves in dire straits almost immediately. The Cavaliers jumped out to a commanding 38-21 lead after the first quarter, a margin they built by shooting 60% overall and matching that efficiency from three-point range. Mitchell then took center stage in the second quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points to help push Cleveland's advantage to 67-50 at halftime. Mobley's 10-of-12 shooting performance through two quarters hinted at what was to come.
The third quarter proved to be the nail in Dallas's coffin. Mitchell, continuing his stellar play, connected on all five of his field goal attempts while adding 12 more points as Cleveland erupted for 41 points in the period. The Cavaliers' lead eventually swelled to 35 points in the fourth quarter, allowing head coach Kenny Atkinson to empty his bench well before the final buzzer.
For the Mavericks, Cooper Flagg provided the game's brightest spot, scoring 25 points in a losing effort. Naji Marshall added 17 points, but their combined efforts proved insufficient against Cleveland's offensive onslaught. Dallas came into the contest riding high following a victory in Memphis that had snapped an eight-game losing streak, but they found themselves powerless to contain the Cavaliers' firepower.
"My best half was 28 points on Dec. 7, 2024, against Charlotte," Mobley noted after the game, reflecting on his near-career performance. The win extended Cleveland's dominance in the series to seven consecutive victories over Dallas.
The teams will reconvene Sunday in Cleveland for the second leg of their series, with the Cavaliers looking to maintain their hot shooting and the Mavericks seeking redemption on enemy territory.
