The Portland Trail Blazers have put on a defensive clinic, taking a commanding 53-40 lead over the Denver Nuggets at halftime. The home team has completely stifled the Denver offense, particularly in a dominant second quarter.
Portland controlled the opening period, edging the Nuggets 35-31 behind a balanced scoring attack. However, the game’s defining stretch came in the second quarter. The Trail Blazers' defense locked in, holding the high-powered Nuggets to a mere nine points. A decisive 18-9 quarter in Portland’s favor was fueled by this defensive intensity, completely shifting the momentum.
For the Blazers, a trio of young talents led the way. Toumani Camara leads all scorers with 12 points, while rookie center Donovan Clingan has been a force inside with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Scoot Henderson provided a scoring punch with 10 points. Denver’s offense runs through Nikola Jokić, who posted a solid 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, but he received little support. Cameron Johnson and Jamal Murray combined for just 14 points on inefficient shooting.
The Nuggets must find answers for Portland’s swarming defense to mount a second-half comeback.
