Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale has entered a not guilty plea to a battery charge following her arrest at a Miami nightclub in March. The 29-year-old WNBA star appeared in court Wednesday to address the misdemeanor charge.
The incident occurred in early March when Ogunbowale was accused of punching a member of the security staff at a Miami establishment. The altercation reportedly took place as staff attempted to escort the basketball player out of the nightclub following an unrelated dispute.
Ogunbowale was arrested and charged with battery for her alleged actions. She posted $1,000 bail and was released shortly after the incident. The alleged altercation occurred hours after Ogunbowale helped her team win the Unrivaled championship.
No further court dates have been scheduled following Ogunbowale's not guilty plea. The legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the battery charge against the four-time WNBA All-Star.
The court case comes during an important period in Ogunbowale's basketball career. Like many WNBA players, she is currently a free agent, though the Dallas Wings extended her a core qualifying offer this week.
This agreement essentially ensures Ogunbowale will return to the team for at least the 2026 WNBA season, though she could technically work out a sign-and-trade agreement if she wanted to leave. The Wings selected Ogunbowale with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft following her standout career at Notre Dame.
Throughout her WNBA career, Ogunbowale has established herself as one of the league's premier players, earning four All-Star selections and three All-WNBA team honors while spending her entire professional career with Dallas.
The team's future looks promising with Ogunbowale potentially returning alongside the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, giving Dallas an opportunity to pair their star guard with another talented young player.
As the legal process continues, Ogunbowale's basketball future remains focused on Dallas, where she has built her professional legacy since entering the league five years ago.
